THE HUMANITARIAN DEPARTMENT

In the United eSwatini Diaspora, we are driven by a shared commitment to humanity. Our humanitarian department stands at the forefront of compassion, resilience and action.

Amidst the challenges that face our beloved country (eSwatini), we rise to the occasion with empathy and unwavering resolve. Every act of kindness, every hand extended in support, is a beacon of hope in times of adversity.

Together, we strive to alleviate suffering, empower and support our Swazi people (incarcerated, exiled, crippled and their families) in the country and in the diaspora. Through our initiatives, we foster solidarity, advocate for justice, and champion the rights of the most vulnerable.

In the face crisis, we do not falter. We stand as a pillar of strength, offering relief, protection, and dignified assistance to emaSwati freedom fighters that are in need. Our work knows no bounds to all eSwatini freedom fighters and touch the lives of those affected by the Tinkhundla Governance System. In unity, we find strength. In compassion, we find purpose. In action, we create change. Join us in our mission to uphold the values of humanity, to make a difference, and to build a free eSwatini where compassion reigns supreme!!

Ongoing Outreach & Campaigns

Since 2022, the UED has become a leading pro-democracy movement, mobilizing the diaspora to resolve the political crisis through international advocacy, regional protests, and SADC-mediated national dialogue.

Eswatini’s Violation of UN Conventions

Eswatini ratified the Convention against Torture in 2004. The use of lethal force by security forces is a direct contravention of this treaty. Despite government claims to the Human Rights Council in 2021 regarding police reforms, security forces continued to use maximum lethal force against peaceful protesters as recently as October 2021.

The Prayer for Restorative Justice

The UED supports the call for justice by the families of the deceased. Drawing from Erwin Staub’s (2010) “Roots of Good and Evil,” we recognize that the passivity of bystanders—including international State Parties—allows victimization to progress toward genocide. In Eswatini, the Commander in Chief, Head of State is above the law and rejects with contempt any mediated dialogue to resolve the on-going political crises.

UED Inaugural Campaign: Restorative Justice without Borders

The UED and the Canada Swazi Diaspora convened the “Restorative Justice without Borders Conference” in Ermelo, South Africa, in June 2022. This was a direct response to the findings of the Eswatini Commission on Human Rights and Public Administration (ECHRPA), which the UED views as an attempt to shield State security agencies from accountability by blaming “unknown mercenaries” for the violence.

DONATIONS

To expand our programme and sustain our comrades in exiles we desperately need your contributions. Central to our work is the belief that the people of Eswatini do not have to wait for change, the people themselves can be catalysts for change. Your donation goes a long way in making a difference in the lives of all Swazis.
